Installing Urethane Concrete Flooring Systems (UMC)

Urethane Modified Concrete floor coatings are engineered to be a superior alternative to brick, tile and other floor coatings. Urethane concrete (also called polyurethane concrete) offers several advantages for industrial flooring applications as they combine the most demanding performance characteristics. They resist thermal shock, and are impact, chemical and abrasion resistant. Urethane concrete coatings also resist high levels of moisture vapor transmission. This makes them ideal for food and beverage processing, chemical processing, light and heavy manufacturing, pharmaceutical plants, water treatment facilities and other applications.

Duraamen’s Kraftig urethane concrete flooring system has been engineered in three grades to meet the most demanding performance flooring requirements imaginable.

Kraftig-SL is a seamless self-leveling, medium to heavy duty, urethane modified cementitious flooring system designed to provide excellent resistance to abrasion, impact, and chemical attack. Kraftig-SL can be broadcasted with quartz aggregate to increase surface texture and slip resistance. The system is typically applied at 3/16″ to 1/4″ in thickness

Kraftig-TGis a trowel grade, heavy duty, urethane modified cementitious flooring system designed to provide excellent resistant to thermal stress, abrasion, impact and chemical attack.

Kraftig-SC is a solvent-free, high build, colored coating system based on cementitious urethane technology. It is typically installed as a top coat for Kraftig broadcast textured finishes, or sometimes used as a primer for Kraftig-SL and UMC-TG systems. It can also be applied to refresh existing cementitious urethane flooring at a fraction of the cost of replacement. It provides excellent chemical resistance properties and very good durability against abrasion and mechanical damage.

Installing a Urethane Concrete Flooring System

In this instructional how-to video, Bob Harris of the Decorative Concrete Institute demonstrates the mixing and installation process for a seamless urethane concrete floor coating. Surface preparation is crucial, as the concrete substrate requires a profile of 5 in order for the urethane coating to be properly installed. This may require shot blasting or diamond grinding.
