Today’s restaurant customer has an excess of choice and a dearth of time and patience. His or her loyalty is to the brands and the stores that consistently deliver the fastest, easiest and most out of the ordinary experience. Restaurant are increasingly choosing seamless flooring systems like polished concrete, epoxy coatings and urethane concrete in the dining and kitchen areas.

While good food and excellent customer service are crucial for return business, the ambience of a restaurant is also important. You want customers to feel comfortable and enjoy their meals. Restaurant design sets the stage for customer’s dining experience. Loud music, granite tables and carpet floors sets an entirely different mood than jazz, linen table cloths and polished concrete floors. While there several elements that go into creating a unique ambiance in a restaurant, the choice of floor covering plays a major role.

Types of resinous flooring for restaurants:

a. Polished concrete flooring: Whether the existing concrete is polished or a layer of self-leveling concrete is applied, polished concrete floors offer a organic – natural feel to the ambiance. Polished concrete floors can be integrally colored, stained or dyed. This type of flooring is typically used in dining areas of the restaurant. Getting a custom look to a restaurant floor is the biggest factor. Color-matching, custom logos, creative patterns, way-finding design, and textures are what draw restaurant owners to choose concrete for their final surface. There are a variety of custom options that can be applied to concrete restaurant floors.

b. Lumiere, metallic epoxy flooring: This type of flooring consists of blend of designer epoxy resin with metallic powder colorants integrally colored and installed in such a way that each floor becomes a piece of art in itself. No two floors can ever be the same with this type of flooring. Lumiere designer epoxy flooring is also used in dining areas. Usually one or two coats of polyurethane coating is applied to protect the surface.

c. Kwortz, decorative quartz flooring: This type of flooring is a blend of industrial grade epoxy resin and quartz granules applied in two or three layers for a total thickness of 1/8″. Decorative quartz flooring can be installed as a cove base also. Therefore, it is usually applied in kitchens and restrooms. They are seamless floors with very high impermeability.

d. Polyurethane concrete floors: This type of flooring is a blend of polyurethane resin, Portland cement and graded aggregates. Polyurethane cement floors are known for thermal shock resistance and therefore are very popular in food preparation areas.

Recently, polished concrete flooring was installed in Potbelly Sandwich shop in New York City.
