About Polyaspartic Sealers

Polyaspartic coatings are a relatively new technology for concrete floor coating and sealing. Developed in the 1990s to protect steel from corrosion, they are now being used to protect commercial, retail, and other facilities’ concrete floors. Originally developed with low VOC in mind, all polyaspartic coatings, sealers, and topcoats are low or zero VOC.

Polyaspartic coatings possess nearly identical properties as the best two-component aliphatic polyurethane coatings. That is to say, they are long-wearing and abrasion, scratch, chemical, UV, and impact resistant. In contrast to polyurethanes, polyaspartic coatings provide faster drying time and high film builds allowing for a much faster return to service. They also resist stains and slightly higher temperatures than other types of coatings. Because high durability, cleanability, low downtime, and longevity are important requirements for floor coatings in industrial plants warehouses, and other facilities, polyaspartic topcoats are an ideal solution for almost any facility’s concrete flooring protection needs.

Installation of a polyaspartic coating is quick, safe, and customizable. Polyaspartic coatings and topcoats allow the formulator to control the rate of cure. The pot life of a two-component polyaspartic coating can range from 5 minutes to 2 hours depending on the need for a fast return to service or coverage of a large area. Their low VOC makes them safe to use in occupied areas. Polyaspartics may be used with or without broadcast materials and on decorative flooring with little chance of intercoat contamination.

Industry applications for use of polyaspartic coatings include, but are not limited to medical and healthcare, education, museums, arenas, concert halls, shopping malls, grocery stores, offices, and commercial buildings.

Duraamen offers two polyaspartic coatings. Perdure P98 is a low VOC, ultra-high solids coating designed to give a high-gloss finish with a minimum number of coats. Perdure P72 is a zero VOC polyaspartic topcoat / polyaspartic sealer that also produces a high-gloss finish where thin builds are a requirement such as a finished decorative concrete floor.
