Helping Clients with Their Decorative Concrete Flooring Ideas

Contractors are sometimes lucky enough to work with clients who know exactly what they want and need with their decorative concrete flooring. The clients might even know the names of the products they want to use in addition to the look they want. Of course, this does not happen often. Most customers have a very basic understanding of concrete flooring, and others only have a basic idea of what aesthetic feel they might want from the flooring. This means it is up to the contractor to help the clients develop their ideas into actual workable plans.

At the initial meeting with the client, the contractor will be able to get the basic idea of what they will be working with. They will know the size of the space, the type of flooring or substrate currently on the floor, and will have a general idea of what the client might want for their decorative concrete flooring. At that point, the contractor will be able to rein in any wild ideas the client might have. While you want to give the client what they like, the client needs to understand that some things are simply not feasible from a design perspective or a practical perspective.

Fortunately, decorative concrete flooring is a very flexible design choice, and it actually will work for a number of different design ideas thanks to all of the products available today for stamping and staining. Take the time to go over several different options with the clients, and present them with some of your own ideas. They may not have mentioned that they wanted certain elements simply because they had no idea what was possible with concrete in the hands of a professional.

Show them just how great concrete can look with your own design portfolio. In addition, you might want to go over some of the additional benefits that concrete can offer, such as energy savings and lower costs, just to help sell them fully on the idea of choosing concrete over other flooring.

Once you have an idea of what the customer wants, and everyone agrees that it is feasible and will look great, it is time to give the client an estimate on the overall costs for the installation. After they agree to have you do the work, it is time to make some magic. Show the clients just how incredible decorative concrete flooring can look when applied properly.
