This video demonstrates the installation of methyl methacrylate (MMA) flooring over a concrete substrate. The advantages of using MMA-based resin as opposed to other types of concrete coatings are a quicker return to service and the ability to cure in very low temperatures. MMA floors can be installed in near-freezing conditions making them particularly useful for outdoor applications and in food and manufacturing facilities where freezers or cold storage are used.

MMA Flooring & Aggregate

Mix Duraamen’s Macrylex H00 (hardener) with Macrylex P12 (resin) for 2 minutes using a Jiffy mixer at slow speed. Bob then pours the resin onto the concrete and spreads it evenly using a notch squeegee. The resin should be applied at approximately a rate of 100 Sq. ft. per gallon.

After the resin has been applied, Bob advises that you backroll the coating with a medium-napped 3/8-inch roller. Porous concrete may require two coats of resin.

Next Bob broadcasts colored quartz aggregate at approximately 5 to 10 pounds per 100 square feet. This is an optional step used for making a slip-resistant surface.

MMA Self-leveling Mortar

On a second panel Bob demonstrates the application of MMA Self-leveling Mortar body coat. He adds self-leveling filler to Duraamen’s Macrylex B18. He then adds MMA pigment at a ratio of 1 quart per 5 gallons of resin and mixes again. Lastly, the Macrylex hardener is added to the B18 resin.

MMA Topcoat

On the third panel, Harris demonstrates the application Macrylex S26, a medium-viscosity clear topcoat, . He starts by adding Macrylex H00 MMA hardener to Macrylex S26 and mixing for two to three minutes. The mixture is spread, or troweled onto the floor and immediately backrolled. After the topcoat has completely cured, a second coat may be applied if needed. Our MMA Topcoat will accept dyes and stains if desired.
