3 Types of Concrete Finishes: Stamped, Stenciled and Broom

Textured concrete floor finishes leave an extremely aesthetic look. If you are searching for a new decorative concrete idea, then there are quite a few to choose from. Luckily, textured concrete finishes are the least expensive out of most decorative concrete ideas. This is because most of the finishes are done by a concrete finisher, with maybe one to two extra finishers on the crew. There are no added materials to produce, except for several bags of rock salt finish application. Here are a few choices for you to consider when it comes to concrete floor finishes.

Stamped Concrete

This type of concrete is commonly referred to as textured or imprinted concrete. It is a concrete that is designed to resemble brick, slate, flagstone, stone, tile and even wood. If the concrete is already in place, you can resurface it with a stampable concrete overlay called Pasto. Please CLICK HERE to watch the installation process.

Exterior Stenciled Concrete

Exterior stenciling concrete is a great alternative to decorative stamping while permitting similar design flexibility. It costs much less to install a stenciled concrete finish than stamped concrete. You can purchase stencils on this website and learn how to install this stenciled concrete finish on your driveways, patios, pool decks, etc.

Float & Trowel Finishes

These types of finishes allow patterns to be made on the concrete. This includes swirls and different size arcs. The texture created can be coarse, medium, or smooth depending on the tool used to impart the pattern. Wood floats create the courser textures while aluminum floats or steel trowels will create medium or smoother finishes.

Broom Finishes

Broom finishes can be one of two things: light broom or course. This all depends on the bristles of the broom that you choose. This is not considered to be the most sophisticated finish, but it provides a very nice and non-slip surface. If your concrete walkway, driveway or patio is worn out or stained, consider using Uberdek concrete resurfacing product to spruce up your property.

Rock Salt Finishes
For this finish, water softener salt crystals 1/8″ to 3/8″ in size are broad casted onto the fresh concrete. A roller is then used to press the salt crystals into the concrete. The surface is later washed, dissolving the salt and leaving small holes.

There are a variety of different finishes to choose from; it all depends on what you are looking for and which will work best for you.
