While acid stains (Chemical Stains or Reactive stains) remain a favorite method of coloring concrete among the contractors they are also an item of interest among DIY customers. Having the right tools helps finish a project successfully.
Stained concrete flooring requires very simple tools. It is a classic DIY product. A person very little experience can achieve beautiful stunning floors. Acid stains (chemical stains) react with lime in the concrete to develop beautiful earth tone colors. The presence of lime in concrete is very important for the acid stains to develop these colors. If the concrete is very old or worn out then a concrete microtopping is installed before acid staining the surface.

The following tools are required to complete a successful acid stain project –
- Pump-up plastic sprayer that shoots a cone rather than a fan pattern
- Brooms, brushes, squeegees
- Wet-dry vacuum
- Masking or painter’s tape, protective plastic
- Neutralizers, cleaners and sealers
- Surface preparation tools
- Buffer/polishing machine
- Rubber gloves, eye goggles, protective clothing
- Plastic buckets
- OSHA approved respirator
- Fans to keep air circulating and expedite the drying process
