The Challenge

Over new concrete, install flooring for a new upscale medical/chiropractic office that withstands heavy foot traffic, is low-maintenance, cost-effective, and has a trendy designer appearance.

The Outcome

A beautiful metallic high-shine floor that matches the décor of the new chiropractic office was realized. Copper Bronze and brass metallic colors were utilized to create an original color that coordinates with the client’s brand concept, and the office’s décor.

Overview

The contractor, CL Balmer, installed a seamless, resinous metallic floor over a new concrete substrate. They chose Duraamen’s Lumiere Designer Metallic Epoxy Flooring System for concrete substrates for its ease of application, and inclusion of professional-grade, high-quality, concrete products

Installation of a metallic epoxy coating over new concrete is straightforward. After the slab is thoroughly cleaned the contractor applies an epoxy concrete primer (Perdure E02) which promotes adhesion of the epoxy coating to come.

Next, the chosen color(s) of epoxy pigments (Lumiere Metallic Essence) are mixed with the clear Lumiere Metallic 2-part Epoxy. In this case copper, bronze, and brass pigments were used to create the client’s ideal color. Lumiere Metallic Essence pigments are made of very fine grains of actual metal. The grains are suspended in the epoxy resin which yields a stunning visual effect to the finished floor.

The Lumiere epoxy mixture is poured onto the primed substrate and spread evenly across the floor with a large squeegee. Once the resin cures it’s ready for a sealer/topcoat to be applied.

The finishing touch is the choice of a concrete sealer/topcoat. For this chiropractic office, the client opted for a high-gloss polyurethane sealer (Perdure U50). Perdure U50 is a chemically resistant urethane concrete floor sealer. We offer many other types of concrete floor sealers for various performance and appearance requirements.

This project was straightforward, however, there are many more design options with the Lumiere Designer Metallic Epoxy System. One may mix different colored batches of metallic epoxy and add these colors to the first, still wet, coat by drizzling, swirling, or other means to create intricate designs or patterns.
