Seamless Flooring Options for Dog Washing Facilities

Seamless Flooring Options for Dog Washing Facilities | Duraamen Engineered Products Inc

If you own a dog washing or dog grooming facility, a floor is one of the first investments you’re going to have to make in your business. Similar to the needs of a hair salon, a dog grooming floor must stand up to repeated sweeping and mopping and must be easy to clean in between visits from your four-legged clients.

Even if you’re not in the dog grooming business, there is reason to be excited about dog washing facility flooring. Pet ownership is at an all-time high in the United States right now. According to the American Pet Products Association, 68% of U.S. households (82.5 million) had at least one pet in 2012, up from 62%, or 72.9 million, in 2010.

New residential apartment buildings and condos are increasingly being fitted with pet amenities including dog washing facilities, to attract residents who have dogs that are part of the family. Hotels and resorts that are pet-friendly are adding dog washing facilities to their properties for the same reason.

Companies that sell rubber matting will push for your business. At first this option seems like a good one, because rubber mats can go right over whatever existing floor you may have. However, there are so many drawbacks to this flooring option for your dog washing facility that you will quickly change your mind.

For one, rubber mats hold on to hair, making them difficult to clean. With a concrete floor, a quick sweep is all you need to get the hair up. Rubber mats don’t dry very easily. With seamless resinous floors, just use a mop and give it a once -over with a dry mop or cleaning pad and you’re good to go.

Dog washing and grooming facilities will have tubs and splashing water. Every dog that gets out of the bath will shake! They just can’t help it. No matter how tightly your rubber mats are placed together, the water and suds will soak in to the floor underneath. Rubber mats must be picked up and shaken off if you need to clean the floor underneath them, which will be often. With rubber mats, you’ll have two floors to take care of rather than one easy to clean, easy to maintain surface if you go with concrete flooring.

Another drawback with rubber mats is that dogs will claw them up. Like shaking, it’s just another thing they can’t help doing. Dogs can’t retract their claws, and eventually, those claws are going to shred your rubber mats. A decorative quartz flooring system or Urethane Concrete Flooring Systems is impervious to dog claws, so you won’t have to worry about this damage.

Seamless resinous floors can be colored and textured so they are non-slip and can look very attractive. We’re not talking about plain gray floors. We’re talking about decorative as well as high performance floors with or without high gloss that can be colored with additives or colored bits of gravel or sand to give it a look that matches your brand’s colors. Your logo can even be placed on the floor for everyone to see as they walk in.

Concrete can be protected with coatings that make them non-slip, impenetrable to chemicals, soap and UV light, so your floor will last practically forever. A seamless resinous floor in your dog washing facility is the kind of floor you will never want to cover up with a rubber mat!

The walls can also be protected using resinous wall coatings. These wall coatings are chemical resistance, impact resistance and are easy to maintain. Typically a wall coatings involves application of one coat of primer, followed by two coats of epoxy body coats and subsequently applying a pigmented polyurethane topcoat.
